Wild Mandarins Playing in the Water in Duyun is so Healing

In the cold winter, a special group of "guests" arrived at the Mochong River in Duyun, Guizhou — around 50 wild mandarin ducks settled here to spend the winter. With their iconic feathered crowns, they either swim in the clear river waters or preen their feathers under the sunshine.

The pairs of mandarin ducks play in the water side by side or fly low in tandem, resembling lively "colorful dumplings," creating a heartwarming ecological picture.

Known as the "water fairies,"mandarin ducks are a national second-class protected species, with high demands on their living environment. They are regarded as "ecological indicators" of clean water bodies.

Their arrival in large numbers is attributed to the ongoing watershed ecological restoration efforts in Duyun City in recent years. Through river purification, vegetation recovery, the Mochong River is now clear with green banks, providing an ideal feeding ground for wild birds.

Today, these adorable creatures have become a feature of the Mochong River. Their carefree presence attracts many locals and tourists, who stop to admire them and capture this natural beauty with their cameras.

The harmonious coexistence of humans and birds is the most heartwarming interpretation of the concept of “respecting nature and protecting the ecology.” This unintentional beauty allows people to feel the vibrant vitality and healing power of nature.
